Janitors and custodians are underappreciated and undervalued workers. They go unnoticed and unrecognized while their cleaning services are often taken for granted. In fact, a recent American City & County article reported that federal, state, and local government agencies buy more than two billion dollars worth of custodial and sanitation supplies each year. The article also cited a report that projects the entire janitorial supplies and equipment industry to grow by about 2 percent each year to more than 7 billion dollars in 2019.
